SA20 Trophy Revealed: The Betway SA20 trophy, the biggest prize in South African sport, has arrived in Cape Town ahead of the first match on 10 January at Newlands. The six franchise captains got up close and personal with the 24 carat gold and silver plated masterpiece, the coveted silverware for which they will all be competing in the coming month.
The world-renowned goldsmiths, silversmiths, and elite sporting trophy makers, Thomas Lyte, designed and crafted the first-ever Betway SA20 trophy. Thomas Lyte has worked on some of the world’s most prized trophies, including the ICC Test Championship Mace, Rugby World Cup’s Webb Ellis Cup, The Emirates FA Cup, and the United Rugby Championship (URC) trophy.
SA20 Trophy Revealed in Cape Town for Inaugural Season 2024
A team of master silversmiths and goldsmiths handcrafted the prestigious piece in Thomas Lyte’s fine silver workshops in London, England. The design, which took over 300 crafting hours to complete, features six handles, one for each of the League’s six founding franchises, with the tournament logo proudly engraved on the front. The trophy stands 60 cm tall and has an innovative and contemporary design with classical features, which are all hallmarks of a Thomas Lyte trophy.
